Employees at the Airports Authority of India have voted to hold a strike next month as part of their protest at the ongoing privatisation of the country’s airports. Union leaders called the previous privatisation of Mumbai and Delhi airports, which took place under the previous government, a “big scam”, and said that it opposed plans to privatise Chennai, Jaipur, Kolkata and Ahmedabad. India’s civil aviation minister Ashok Gajapathi, appeared to remain non-committal, saying the government would do “whatever was in the best interests of India”.
