The worsening crisis in Ukraine and the tit-for-tat trade sanctions between the EU and Russia has scuppered a new ro-ro freight service between Germany and Lithuania only launched by DFDS in June. The Danish firm says that what it describes as the “current trade dispute” in the Baltic Sea has “significantly impacted the route’s freight volumes”. Russia shows no signs of backing down on its current position and is therefore being cold-shouldered in international dealings. A bad time for traders with Russia, and a dangerous time for the world.
