Innovative Nairobi-based Astral Aviation is to open a “drone airport” next year and invest in a drone which can carry up to two tonnes of cargo and travel for 1,200km. Aimed at the oil and gas industry, Astral Aerial Solutions will operate drones in Kenya and Rwanda, where the machines have been approved by regulators. The airport will be at Kapese airstrip in the oil-rich Lokichar area. Astral will also buy security drones to monitor the movement of crude oil on trucks.
