Shipping trade association BIMCO this week has opened a new office in Singapore to increase member services in south-east Asia and boost collaborations with regional maritime associations.

Maite Bolivar Klarup has been appointed general manager of the office. Ms Bolivar Klarup has 16 years’ maritime experience – she was most recently head of PR and communication for Thome Ship Management in Singapore, and has also worked in business development, communication, marketing and logistics roles.

She has an MBA in Shipping and Logistics and has worked in the US and Denmark as well as Singapore.

Angus Frew, BIMCO secretary general, said: “Our new office in Singapore is great news as we will be better able to provide direct advice and support to our members in the region. Maite Bolivar Klarup will soon become a key contact for members.

“With offices in both Shanghai and Singapore we look forward to improving our services to members and to working in closer collaboration with the other maritime associations in the region.”

BIMCO’s Singapore will also be shared with staff from the Baltic Exchange and the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, forming a small ‘hub’ of maritime organisations in the area.
