The split appears to be a political move, unconnected to the high membership fees – Delta said A4A had not supported it sufficiently on “policy issues”, while chief executive appears to think of his company in a different class to American and United, according to this article anyway, and sees “Delta’s peers not to be other airlines, but high quality industrial transport companies like UPS, FedEx and big railroads”.
