With Deutsche Bahn expected to announce an 18% drop in first-half profits and costs, particularly for its high-speed ICE trains have risen, the news that it is considering a sale or partial sale of its DB Schenker logistics arm is perhaps less surprising. According to German media, the board will discuss the possibility today. Also on the table is UK transport company Arriva, acquired just five years ago for €2.8bn. The group is also, according to this report, expected to announce some restructuring, with DB’s financial director taking over both DB Schenker and Arriva. Apparently, however, negotiations with any interested parties have not yet begun.

Last week the German Monopolies Commission called for Deutsche Bahn’s infrastructure and transport units to be separated as they were concerned about lack of fair competition.
