The ugly spectre of the air cargo cartel has come to the fore again. Eleven airlines had been trying to reach a settlement with the EU – but it looks as if they will have to pay out the original penalties of about €800m. Bloomberg notes that there could be a little politics mixed in with this – at least in the timing. The competition commissioner, who will visit Washington DC this month, has been accused of mostly singling out US companies. These are mostly European, and none are from the US.
