Insiders expect EC officials will look to “geofence” airports and urban areas as no-fly zones for drones, which rather limits their proposed use for e-commerce deliveries, given that one developer that is nearest to producing a viable commercial drone is Amazon. “For some, drones represent a promising technology to expand our capabilities in the field of parcel delivery, humanitarian assistance or infrastructure maintenance. But critics point out that these aircraft also raise some concerns in terms of safety and privacy.”
