German container terminal operator Eurogate has named Wolfgang Schiemann to take over as managing director of its Hamburg facility after Peter Zielinski retires at the end of the year.

Mr Schiemann is presently managing director of the company’s Bremerhaven container terminal, and will be succeeded by operations manager Manuela Drews.

Mr Zielinski has spent over 25 years working for the company. He began his maritime career with Bremen-based break-bulk and heavy-lift carrier DDG Hansa before joining American container shipping line US Lines, where for eight years he held various positions at home and abroad. After several years at the helm of the company’s container terminal in Fos, near Marseilles, he joined Eurokai in Hamburg as assistant to the operations manager. In 1995, he was promoted to operations manager and following the establishment of the EUROGATE joint venture, he was appointed managing director of Eurogate Container Terminal Hamburg in 1999.

Mr Schiemann was operations manager at Eurogate Container Terminal Hamburg from 2000 to 2004, after which he was appointed managing director at Eurogate Container Terminal Bremerhaven.

Manuela Drews

Ms Drews, has been operations manager and authorised representative at Eurogate Container Terminal Bremerhaven since April 2010. She joined the company as a junior manager on the trainee programme in 2003. In January 2008, she was made head of operations at the facility. In addition to her responsibilities as operations manager she is also a customs agent and a member of the board of the Bremerhaven Port Tunnel Association.
