Fascinating story by Lloyd’s List’s Asia team on the pseudo-feudal factionalism at Taiwanese transport conglomerate Evergreen, following the recent death of founder Chang Yung-fa. According to reports, Dr Chang had left a handwritten will naming Chang Kuo-wei, his only son from his second marriage and current Eva Air chairman, as group chairman of the conglomerate. It added that vice group chairman Bronson Hsieh, who has been the public face of the line for the past few years, should remain in his position. But all that has been cast into doubt his week when it emerged that his three sons from his first marriage are disputing the will and have scrapped the chairmanship role altogether: “The legendary shipping figure apparently did not provide sufficient legal grounds for the son to enforce his will, allowing his other sons to launch the latest counter-attack.”
