In a good example of the dangers of e-commerce shipments, Amazon may have to pay $350,000 in fines after the FAA accused it of violating dangerous goods rules. Amazon is said to have shipped a corrosive drain cleaner via UPS, which leaked when moved and caused mild burns to nine UPS staff. The FAA alleges that the product was not properly packaged and labelled and had no shipper’s declaration. It also suggestz that Amazon employees had not been properly trained. The FAA said Amazon had a “history” of violations, and accused it of breaking the rules on hazardous materials 25 times between February 2013 and September 2015.
