US Jones Act carrier Horizon announced that it had received a waiver from the US Coast Guard and Environmental Protection Agency to continue operating three vessels in its Alaska service that run off heavy fuel oil wile it awaits installation of scrubbers on the ships, an $18m project which will begin later this year and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2016. Ownership of the vessels and the operation of the service are due to be transferred to Matson Navigation in the first quarter of this year.
