Iran is keen to boost regional rail freight, according to this article. It is focusing on a north-south corridor, as well as a railway connecting the country to Afghanistan. And it is in talks with countries including Turkey, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Russia to help build an improved freight rail network.
Cargo transport in Iran has risen 10% this year, and although imports were down, rail exports rose 60%. Iran Railways is introducing several measures to increase volumes, including raising the speed limit for freight trains, and offering discount prices, of up to 40%, to cargo owners.
