Maersk and its terminal operating arm, APM Terminals, have not had the easiest of times in India, which as a rule of thumb remains deeply suspicious of foreign-owned corporates. The Hague-headquartered port operator has had frequent disagreements with the country’s port regulator over the way tariffs are set and terminal concession contracts drawn up. The Hindu Business Line yesterday reported that the country’s Competition Commission has received a complaint from policy advisory society Indian Competition Review that APMT is distorting competition in the container freight station sector, which is hugely important to India’s container supply chains, by “bundling” Maersk CFS services with APM Terminal’s operations at Jawaharlal Nehru Port.
