Accra has seen its air cargo handling capacity rise to 70,000 tonnes following the opening of a new centre at Kotoka Airport. A JV between Air Ghana and Ghana Airports Company, it was opened last week by Ghana’s president, John Mahama, and will be operated by Swissport Ghana. Among the facilities are two large cold stores, a bullion store, x-ray scanners and 24-hour CCTV cameras, making “it the best cargo facility in Africa and arguably one of the best in the world”, according to the managing director.
