Two insurers have issued  guidelines on how to carry heavy or oversized items at sea. Noting that it can pay to pay more, the guide warns against cost cutting, saying “the pressure to reduce costs is very high and …there is a natural desire to cut the shipping costs as far as possible.”

But it warns that unsuitable vessels or badly trained crew could cause the loss of the cargo altogether. A good backpocket guide.
