Want a glimpse into the future of trucking? This is it. While driverless trucks are some way off, there is interesting progression on improving the environment for drivers by adding more modern technologies. This, in turn, could attract more to the business. Self-driving software could give a driver a break as self-correcting sensors compensate for minor disturbances, allowing the driver to relax, as would greater visibility. And then there’s convoy driving. Like birds, if trucks travel close together, they shield each other from wind resistance and would use 10% less fuel. Drivers are currently unable to take advantage of this – but software might be able to do it. A good read.
