Drewry has done some number crunching on whether the move to air freight during the height of the west coast ports congestion has stuck. Air freight has, in containerisable imports to the US, added to its market share, which is now at 2.8%, up from 2.4% at the start of 2014. US Census Bureau data shows that air cargo has increased its share in women’s garments – being flown in for the summer season – as well as in hi-tech and automotive, and even in the slower moving sphere of men’s t-shirts.
