US freight companies are bemoaning overstocked inventories, as volumes recorded by the CASS Freight Index fell 4.8% in June, year-on-year. Despite higher consumer spending, retailers are continuing to sell existing stocks after over-ordering. Both retail and freight companies are concerned about the peak season, with “tepid” demand. There is one bright spot, however. Temperature-controlled shipping is a “very good placed to be”, the WSJ reports.
