Meanwhile, in another set of results, Wal-Mart, like other US companies, blamed poor winter weather for its lower-than-expected first-quarter results – and threw in currency fluctuations as another mitigating factor.  Although it saw a 0.8% rise in revenue, year-on-year, the reported $114.2bn was short of the $116.3bn anticipated. However – whether weather-related or not, e-commerce sales saw a 27% increase in the quarter. But shares fell over concerns about the second quarter.
