An interview with Søren Skou, CEO of Maersk, is always worth a read. Here he explains what went wrong in the shipping industry – essentially, he says they were all surprised by the downturn in global trade, leading to shameful amounts of overcapacity. And now an idle fleet – which has helped boost rates. He also seems relatively sanguine about potential changes coming to the US – but he adds that anything that’s good for global trade, is good for Maersk.
