Its timing as impeccable as ever: today the Runways conference in London is debating the conclusion of the Davies report and The Economist looks at why the debate over the future of the UK’s largest aviation hub has been so drawn out. To put things in perspective, while China has built some 80 new airports from scratch, not a single full runway has been built in the UK for 60 years! While most of the arguments focus on the dynamics of the passenger business, this is obviously crucial to the country’s air cargo industry.
