A short and to-the-point blog from The Brookings Institute, an economic and policy think-tank, on the need to legislate trucking emissions in the US – although it applies equally to road freight anywhere. The point is pretty simple: large trucks, those with six wheels or more, represent only about 5% of all vehicles on the roads, but account for around a quarter of all transport fuel consumption – more than aviation or shipping – and as such are the most obvious target for emissions reduction.
