Production of BMW’s Series 1, 2, 3 and 4 models was brought to a halt last week after a breakdown in its supply chain. The car manufacturer’s supplier, Bosch, found itself unable to provide the requisite parts for the cars’ steering gear. A report by Arabian Supply Chain says production may start up again this week. But one thing the incident has done is reiterate the complexity, and diversity, of global supply chains – in the case of BMW, it’s one that stretches from China to Germany to South Africa. And it also underlined the fragility of the supply chain.
