Japan floods

Japan has experienced its worst flooding in more than three decades, leading to significant loss of life. Nikkei Asian Review reports that the rains have also revealed fundamental flaws in the domestic infrastructure. The article goes on to note that, while many companies have put extensive efforts into making their supply chains “quake proof”, they have failed to take the impact of flooding into consideration. One government-conducted survey suggests just 30% of businesses have taken the time to put contingencies in place for flooding. The upshot of this has seen companies, including the likes of Panasonic, suspend operations in the wake of the recent tide of floods.
