According to US trucking newswire FreightWaves, express giant UPS is to effectively suspend operations of its less-than-truckload freight department in case the 12,000 employees who are Teamsters union members should vote to strike. The vote is set to take place on 9-11 November, on the latest five-year collective bargaining contract, and UPS said it “plans to empty its pipeline of freight” before the employees vote. The Teamsters said a strike could be called any time from 12 November if its members rejected the new contract terms.
