There’s been lots of talk about someone developing an Uber-for-trucking app, but if that someone is Amazon then it appears there’s another existential threat to truck brokerage firms in the US on the way. This report from Business Insider suggests Amazon will introduce “an app that matches truck drivers with shippers” as early as next summer, and is likely to pitch the company into direct competition with some of its suppliers, such as CH Robinson and XPO Logistics, which have already developed state-of-the-art systems, only they keep that technology to themselves.
