It all depends on who you listen to, when it comes to the future of artificial intelligence (AI). The new US secretary of commerce, Steve Mnuchin, for example, claims that AI won’t affect jobs in any meaningful way for 50 to 100 years. But the cofounder of self-driving truck company Otto, bought by Uber in August, thinks driverless trucks will be roaming the roads within the next decade. He added that the nature of truck driving – a difficult job – would shift to become more city based, while AI takes on the freeways.
