Doncaster Sheffield Airport sees cargo increase

Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield has seen a 112 per cent increase in the amount of cargo it transports.

The figures, which represent the number of consignments in and out of the airport, show a second successive year of growth. The figures represent tonnage through the airport year on year for 2013 and 2014.

Doncaster Sheffield Airport, through operator Anglo World Cargo, managed a series of aid flights in November and December to Sierra Leone as part of the Government’s programme to help those affected by Ebola.

The flights, operated by Air Cargo Global for the Department for International Development (DFID), included equipment such as beds, mattresses and medical supplies for five field hospitals in Sierra Lone.

Dayle Hauxwell, Cargo Manager at Doncaster Sheffield Airport, said: “We were delighted to be a part of the UK’s efforts to help Sierra Leone defeat Ebola and we will continue to help in any way possible.

“The growth in our cargo activities is excellent and continued evidence that the Airport’s cargo terminal is enhancing its reputation around the world.

“The amount of freight being transported has increased significantly and this can only be positive news for the Airport and the regional economy.”

Between October and December, the Airport saw seven B747-400s operate from the Cargo Terminal.

Doncaster Sheffield Airport’s Cargo Terminal has the ability to handle all aspects of airfreight from the smallest parcel to bespoke charters of large cargo aircraft, such as the Antonov-225s.
