Today will see the ports of Tacoma and Seattle form an alliance, after they were given the go-ahead by the US Federal Maritime Commission. The Northwest Seaports Alliance will allow the ports to meet, jointly plan and market, and agree on management of the ports. The alliance will makes the two ports, which for decades have been fierce rivals in the container handling business, the US’s third-largest trade gateway.
