According to the most recent monthly Fuel Surcharges Monitor, produced by Hong Kong-based AAA Advisory, air freight shippers last year were subject to fuel surcharges that were on average 41.7 points higher than the level paid in 2010, while all-in freight rates were 32.4% higher, with apparently little similarity between movements in the price of crude and fuel surcharges. The report’s authors added that the situation has become further complicated by the move to volumetric air freight pricing.
