CSCL Indian Ocean

Debate over the depth of the River Elbe, and the environmental implications of its proposed dredge to allow greater access to ultra-large container vessels, has been reignited following the grounding of China Shipping’s 19,000 teu CSCL Indian Ocean this week. Splash247 reports politicians complaining of the economic damage to Hamburg, while environmentalists have urged ULCVs to call at the under-utilised Wilhelmshaven port. The vessel is still aground and unlikely to be refloated until the next spring tide, due next week.
