Coatings supplier for the marine sector Hempel has appointed Michael Hansen as its new executive vice president and chief operating officer, effective 1 May.
Mr Hansen joins Hempel from Maersk Line, following a 19-year career with the carrier, having joined in 1998 on an educational programme.
He went on to hold multiple roles, including general manager of reefer management as well as several line manager roles. His duties also took him overseas, with two two-year stints in New Zealand and Mexico.
For eight months, he served as chief executive of Seago – Maersk’s intra-Europe line – before being appointed Maersk Line’s vice president and global head of sales in January 2016.
Mr Hansen’s appointment will see him join Hempel’s executive management board, and he will report directly to group president and chief executive Henrik Andersen, who said he was pleased that Mr Hansen had chosen to join Hempel’s management group.
“His wide experience in the industry, which he has acquired through one of our best global customers, is of great value to Hempel,” added Mr Andersen.
