Bloomberg has published a fascinating article on the rise and rise of Amazon, and where it might end up. From its revival of Wilmington, Ohio, still reeling from the job losses after DHL pulled out, to its plans for almost instant delivery, Amazon has changed the world of retail – and now logistics. As Deutsche Bank notes, for Amazon, logistics is just “one giant maths exercise”. It has “hundreds of PhD mathematicians” who spend their days optimizing logistics. A threat, or an opportunity? A worthwhile, if long read.
