Veteran Washington politician Elaine Chao has been tipped to be named as Donald trump’s transportation chief when he takes the reins in the US next year. Ms Chao was George W Bush’s Labour Secretary and held a post in the Department of Transportation during his father’s presidency in the 1990s. She is expected to come to the job well-versed in some of the issues, given that her father, James Chao, was a Chinese seafarer who went on to found the Foremost Group shipping empire.
