The extraordinary rise of Chinese express company YTO Logistics is charted in this fascinating article. In the space of just 15 years, 49-year old chairman Yu Weijiao has transformed a small concern that employed 17 people into China’s largest delivery company by market share, employing 220,000 people across some 20,000 locations. It is now going international, with plans to establish operations in around 20 countries next year, as well as having ambitions in the air cargo business. Its first airplane flew in September and it hopes to have a cargo fleet of 50 aircraft by 2020, doubling to 100 by 2025. In other news, China’s aviation authority has approved the establishment of new cargo airline AVIC.
